In this feature we cover organic and natural food exhibition organized by Tehran municipality in addition to natural food section of farmers markets (bazar e rooz) also organized by municipality in order to make healthy lifestyle more affordable and available to all citizens. We go visit a store owned by a young couple who are selling natural and healthy foods produced in rural areas not only to promote healthy lifestyle but also to save our environment and reduce our carbon footprint and basically sustainable development in rural areas.
Organic food - free from pesticides or chemical fertilisers - is becoming increasingly popular among the farmers and health-conscious of Iran. It's the country's eventual aim to make a quarter of all agricultural goods organic. Tucked away in this small farm in Lavasan (a small town around 25 kilometres east of Tehran), farmer Hamidreza Hosseini is hard at work. He cultivates a wide range of organic products, including fruits and vegetables, all of which are completely free from pesticides and chemical fertilisers.
